Watch this video to hear from graduates Expertise. The flexible MSA curriculum allows students to deeply explore accounting practice areas of their professional interest. Students can pursue one of the three MSA Specializations (Accounting Information Systems; Financial Reporting; Taxation) or select a customized set of courses to meet specific professional needs and goals. Small class sizes enable students to connect with faculty and draw on the resources of the Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy community. Practical. MSA courses cover a broad range of subjects and help students develop practice relevant knowledge and skills, including communication, team decision making, problem solving, and research. In addition, students learn valuable leadership skills through participation in student organizations, team competitions, and service-learning activities. Rigorous. SDSU teaches essential skills of accounting practice and holds students to high standards of performance, ethics, and professionalism. Global. Understanding global accounting and business practice is imperative. The diverse faculty and student body infuses an awareness of the global business environment into the classroom. Certification. The MSA curriculum meets the accounting education requirements for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in California. The flexible curriculum can also be customized to prepare students for other professional certification exams including Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Enrolled Agent (EA). The MSA program is open to students with bachelor’s degrees in any discipline. The curriculum requires students complete at least ten courses (30 semester units) beyond the core business prerequisites. Students who have fulfilled the core business prerequisites can generally complete the program in 2-3 semesters, while students without prior academic studies in accounting or business can expect to spend 3-4 semesters in the program (note: students can accelerate the program by completing courses during summer sessions with appropriate planning). Official MSA Programs of Study (POS) are determined in consultation with a faculty mentor based on individual student goals.
