Yes. Flexibility is the key
to our program. You will switch advisors, as each advisor
has responsibility for a separate track. However, your
new advisor will work with you to ease the transition.
If I have an undergraduate degree
in business do I have to complete all the core business classes?
The college automatically waives
the prerequisites for students coming into the program with
an undergraduate degree from an
AACSB accredited business school.
Other students may complete a Core
Waiver Request Form and have the Administrative Advisor in
the graduate office or advisor approve the waiver
of particular courses (Dr. Whittenburg approves all course
waiver forms for tax track).
If I need to complete some core business
classes, must I complete all before taking courses in my formal
program?
No. You may work on the core
business classes as your progress through the program.
However, you must complete BA 650 prior to attempting Acctg
620 and both BA 650 and BA 660 prior to attempting Acctg 625.
If I am in the Certificate in
Accounting program, may I count my units towards the MS degree?
No more than 9 units of
graduate level courses taken at SDSU by a certificate
student may count towards the MSA degree program.
Please see your advisor for clarification and approval.
If I'm in the professional track,
which tax classes may I count in my program?
Acctg 624 (or Acctg 503) is
required unless you have completed an equivalent
undergraduate introductory tax course. You may also
include either Acctg 650 or Acctg 651 in your professional
track program. You may take Acctg 651 without taking Acctg
650. Note: SDSU undergrads who have not completed
Acctg 503, may receive credit on their MSA program for Acctg
624 (or Acctg 503).
What courses may I take to improve my
communication skills?
-
IDS 705 (Communications Strategies)
-
RWS 503W (Technical Writing)
-
LING 505 Writing for Graduate Students (for those with English as a Second Language)
